Master of Science (M.S.) in School Psychology

Program Overview

The Mission of Albizu University, San Juan Campus School Psychology Program, is to prepare students for the profession of school psychology through a coordinated sequence of courses, practice experience in a diversity of settings applied to the profession, research and the interaction with faculty, students and supervisors. The programs also contribute to the development of professionals capable to perform school interventions geared toward the enhancement of the quality of life of those who seek their assistance. Our program’s training model is based on the scientist-practitioner-leader model.  Scientific psychology will be the basis of your training in preparing you to become a scientist, leader and professional who can effectively function in the community as a school psychologist.

Program Highlights

The Albizu University’s Master of Science in School Psychology Program will provide you with the opportunity to develop the relevant competencies consistent with the school psychology practice. These include:

▪     Assessment strategies and intervention approaches,

▪     Awareness of cultural, racial, and social diversity in practice and research,

▪     Legal and ethical knowledge and skills in both practice and research

▪     Ability to design programs and research literature information into the practice of school psychology.

 

Our program integrates the theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experiences for you to develop the necessary professional and research skills in the field. The Albizu University’s Master of Science in School Psychology Program faculty members are characterized by excellence, innovation and are forward thinking professionals who will provide you with an understanding of relevant theories, skills, techniques, research, and practice in the field of School Psychology.

As a student in the Master of School Psychology Program, you will have the opportunity to be placed on an external school practicum site.  This will allow for you to establish community and professional connections that will improve your employability and provide a network of professional contacts in school psychology and related disciplines. As a graduate of Albizu University’s Master of Science in School Psychology Program, you will be eligible for state licensure.

These professionals work in a variety of settings, such as schools, hospitals, independent living centers, rehabilitation agencies and private practice. They can promote public policy that positively impacts infants, children and youth. The program will use as a guide the standards given by the National Association of School Psychology.
