Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (B.A.)

Program Overview

The B.A. in Elementary Education (BAEE) program at Albizu University, Miami campus, trains you to become a culturally competent elementary school teacher. A range of courses, including reading, art, mathematics, music, and behavior management, provide you with the knowledge and skills to become an outstanding educator of diverse student populations from kindergarten through sixth grade.

The program is designed as a major in Elementary School Education, enabling you to meet the coursework requirements to apply for certification in the State of Florida.

Program Highlights

Albizu University’s founding as a school of psychology with a focus on cultural and ethnic issues ensures that your BAEE program will integrate the study and understanding of human behavior with a strong appreciation for diversity in the field of education.

The clinical observation component of the program enables you to directly participate in a public school classroom early on, offering exposure to the teaching environment as part of your professional development. You will also have the opportunity to take a select number of graduate-level courses as electives, paving the way for entrance into a master’s level program.

The BAEE program culminates in a 15-week internship at a Dade or Broward County public school, where you will assist in a classroom under the supervision of an Albizu University Education Department faculty member and the classroom teacher.

As a graduate of the program, you will receive ESOL endorsement and the option to obtain Reading endorsement by completing two additional courses: Reading in Elementary School II (REA302) and Reading Practicum (REA430). Students also have the option to obtain minors in Mathematics and/or Science Education (Grades 5-9) and in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The availability of day, evening, and online classes provides you with the flexibility and convenience you need to meet the other demands of life. Classes are taught by an expert group of faculty with real-life experiences in the field of education.

Career Opportunities

BAEE program graduates typically take the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations and secure jobs in private or public school systems. Many of our graduates are employed in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, thus contributing to the education of children in local communities. Other graduates continue their higher education careers by pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree
