Program Overview

The B.A. in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program with a minor in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at Albizu University, Miami campus, provides you with a comprehensive and integrated knowledge base in ESE and ASD through coursework combined with field-based experiences using state-of-the-art technology. You will become part of a cadre of highly skilled, certified professionals who have a thorough understanding of current trends in ESE and ASD and who teach and advocate for exceptional students.

Program Highlights

The program consists of 120 credits of coursework. The curriculum is sequenced, gradually increasing your skills and knowledge in the field of ESE while highlighting the specialized area of ASD. As with all Albizu University courses of study, the program incorporates theoretical and applied content that is sensitive to cultural and ethnic issues, while reinforcing in students a professional demeanor, a strong spirit of learning, and the highest ethical standards.

The minor in Autism Spectrum Disorder gives you a solid theoretical and practical understanding of ASD and related behavioral assessment, diagnostic, and management procedures. You will be trained in the use of instructional techniques to enhance socio-emotional interactions and communication systems and in state-of-the-art technologies, which will all be employed in field-based experiences that integrate evidence-based treatments with teaching practice.

Career Opportunities

Program graduates typically take the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations and secure jobs in private or public school systems. Many of our graduates are employed in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, thus contributing to the education of children in local communities. Other graduates continue their higher education careers by pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Special Education.

The minor in ASD facilitates obtaining the Florida Endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorders, which enables you to work with the autism population in the school system.
