Program Overview

The M.S. in Exceptional Student Education (MSESE) program with a concentration in Varying Exceptionalities at Albizu University, Miami campus, prepares you to become a culturally sensitive educator who can respond to the unique needs of children with exceptionalities in grades K-12. The program is designed for students who wish to obtain a teaching certificate in the state of Florida in the area of Exceptional Student Education (K-12).

Our curriculum is consistent with Albizu University’s philosophy of integrating high-quality instructional experiences with an understanding of human behavior and sensitivity toward culturally diverse populations. The program incorporates psychological principles to better prepare you for the demands of classroom teaching in a multicultural setting.

The faculty is composed of exceptional education practitioners and experts who will ensure your working understanding of techniques, strategies, scholarly research, and evidence-based materials and methodologies. A highlight of the program is the completion of an action research capstone course that assesses your knowledge in the areas of instructional strategies, methodologies, curriculum development, educational technology, behavior management, and assessment, all within the context of exceptional student education.

Courses are delivered in classroom, hybrid, and online formats to provide you with the flexibility and convenience you need to meet the other demands of life.

As an MSESE program graduate, you will understand the policies, ethics, and procedures of exceptional education within a school system. As a practitioner, you will engage in curriculum planning, collaboration, consultation, and the implementation of policies and inclusion techniques and strategies.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the MSESE program typically find employment as exceptional education teachers in primary, elementary, middle, secondary, alternative, and charter schools and in hospitals, nonprofit agencies, and other specialized centers. Other graduates work as consultants or mentors or obtain faculty appointments at higher education institutions.
