Grants

Grants are funds awarded on the basis of specific criteria, depending on the funding source. They do not have to be repaid. The first four grant programs listed below are for undergraduates only. The rest apply to undergraduate or graduate students. As noted, some are available to students studying in either San Juan or Miami, while others apply only to students at the Miami campus. General information on federal grants and scholarships can be found here.

Grants for Undergraduates

Federal PELL Grant (San Juan/Miami) – Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a postbaccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.) The amount of Pell Grant funding a student may receive in an award year depends on the family’s income, the cost of college attendance, and the student’s enrollment status.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) (San Juan/Miami) – This grant is available to undergraduate students demonstrating exceptional financial need. Priority is given to students who receive Federal Pell Grants. The amount of an award depends on the student’s financial need and the availability of funds at the university. Each participating school receives a certain amount of FSEOG funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. Once the full amount of the school’s allotted funds has been awarded to students, no more FSEOG awards can be made for that year.

Florida Student Assistance Grant Program (FSAG) (Miami) – This program is available to full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students in Florida who demonstrate substantial financial need.

Access for Better Learning and Education (ABLE) Grant Program (Miami) – This grant provides tuition assistance to Florida undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs at eligible private Florida colleges or universities. ABLE is a decentralized State of Florida program, which means that each participating institution determines application procedures, deadlines, and student eligibility.
